Google has begun rolling out early access to its Model Context Protocol server for the Google Home ecosystem, giving third-party AI agents direct access to smart home devices and their event histories. The integration means any MCP-compatible agent, from Claude to ChatGPT to Google's own Antigravity, can now interact with connected home hardware through natural language commands.

The setup process mirrors standard Google Cloud integrations. Users create a Google Cloud project, configure it to use Home MCP, and then pass the configuration details to their agent of choice. Google has not committed to a timeline for expanding access to lower subscription tiers or international markets. The company said it is soliciting feedback from early adopters through its Smart Home for Developers Community during this initial phase, suggesting the integration is still being refined based on real-world usage.
